Pictures of External
Hemorrhoids
The two pictures of hemorrhoids opposite are of shrinking external hemorrhoids that were at one
point thrombosed. This picture of piles is a good example of a case of hemorrhoids that is easily
treatable.
Leaving a case untreated until the symptoms of hemorrhoids becomes unmanageable is not
encouraged.
Treating your condition as soon as you are aware of the presence of piles will ensure that,
similar to the case in this hemorrhoid photo your condition will heal relatively quickly.
The external hemorrhoid photos ;on this page are intended to clearly illustrate their appearance
and colouration, unless thrombosed they should appear skin coloured.
In the upper image you can see that the hemorrhoid, whilst purplish in colour which would
indicate thrombosed hemroids, is small and not in an aggravated state.
|
Underneath the anus you will notice what can be described as the start of a formation of a fold of skin or what
is also referred to as a skin tag. There was a further external hemorrhoid present below the anus, as this hemroid
has shrunk; the skin that would have stretched is now reducing, forming a skin tag.
The image just above the previous paragraph is a close up of the same hemorrhoid to give a clearer view of the
colouration of external hemorrhoids that are thrombosed.

Internal Prolapsed Hemorrhoid and External
Hemorrhoids
This hemorrhoid photo shows an internal prolapsed hemorrhoid, similarly to that of the condition
in the image above.
The difference in this case of hemroids is that you will note that the external hemorrhoids in
this instance are not purplish in colour which would indicate that they are not thrombosed.

External Thrombosed
Hemorrhoids
This image of hemorrhoids is another example of what a hemorrhoid that has developed outside of
the rectum, below the dentate line may look like.
This thrombosed external hemroid is rather large filled with a clot of blood that is causing it
to appear a purplish colour. Hemroids are sometimes compared to the condition of varicose veins,
the blood vessels have become swollen and engorged with blood.

Conditions Often Misdiagnosed as Hemorrhoids
 |
Anal Fissures
Anal fissures are tears or cracks in the skin of the anal canal.
Anal fissures may be noticed by bright red anal bleeding in the toilet bowl after passing stools
or on the toilet paper after wiping.
In acute cases they may cause severe pain after passing stools
|
|
Anal fissures usually extend from the anal opening and are usually located posteriorly in the
midline, probably because of the relatively unsupported nature of the anal wall in that location.
Fissure depth may be superficial or sometimes down to the underlying sphincter muscle.
Fissures that are superficial or shallow will appear much like a paper cut, this type of Anal
Fissure may be hard to detect upon visual inspection. This condition will generally self-heal
within a couple of weeks. However, some anal fissures become chronic and deep and will not
heal.

Skin Tags
Anal skin tags or anal skin tabs as they are sometimes referred to are usually the result of a
prior anorectal condition or injury.
An acute swelling of an external hemorrhoid for example, if left untreated, frequently leaves
behind a skin tag - also referred to as a hemorrhoidal tab.
Swollen skin edges as a result of prior rectal surgery may also develop into skin tags.
Skin tags are harmless, but are often considered unsightly or a nuisance dependant on their
location on the body. They can often become hinged on a piece of clothing or jewellery and cause
discomfort when pulled on.
The photo to the right is an image of external hemorrhoids that have shrunk and left behind skin
tags. These appear like flaps of loose skin. Similar to stretch marks, when the skin stretches to
accommodate the hemorriodal swelling and the hemorrhoid shrinks, the result is loose skin in the
form of an unsightly skin tag.

|
Whilst they have a similar appearance to Anal Warts they are not the same condition and need to be treated
accordingly.

Predominant raphe
perinealis
The images on the left are of raphe perinealis. By viewing these images you will hopefully begin
to get a much better idea in regards to what this condition looks like. Even though all the images
on this page will help you to self diagnose what the potential condition you have is, we still
strongly advise that you all seek professional medical help.
In the instance of predominant raphe perinealis in males, the perineal raphe extends from the
anus, through the mid-line of the scrotum (scrotal raphe) and upwards through the posterior
mid-line aspect of the penis (penile raphe).
It is observed as a noticeable line
It is the result of a fetal developmental phenomenon whereby the scrotum (the equivalent of the
labia in females) and penis close toward the midline and fuse.
The resulting ridge of tissue is evident as the perineal raphe.
This noticeable line or flap of skin tissue appears to be similar to the condition of skin tags,
however is a developmental issue.
This condition has not come about because of shrinking hemorrhoids and thus has no association
with the hemorrhoidal condition.
The top two images are of a 21 year old female with predominant raphe perinealis.
The third image is that of a male with the same condition.

Condylomata-acuminata-around-anus or Anal
Warts
Condyloma Acuminata also called Anal Warts are a condition that affects the area inside the anus
and around the outside of the anus.
Warts may also affect the skin of the genitalia. They first appear as small spots or growths,
perhaps as tiny as the head of a pin, and may grow larger than the size of a pea.
Usually Anal Warts do not cause pain or discomfort to individuals with this condition. As a
result, patients may be unaware that the warts are present.
Some patients who have the condition of Anal Warts might experience symptoms such as itching,
bleeding, mucus discharge or a feeling of a lump or mass in the anal area which is where the
misdiagnosis of the hemorrhoidal condition can occur. These symptoms are often associated with the
presence of hemroid problems and thus can often lead to ones misdiagnosis.
Anal warts, thought to be caused by the human papilloma virus, can grow larger and certainly
spread if not treated. Treatment would be to remove the warts from the affected region.
|
|
This condition is thought to be caused by the human papilloma virus (HPV) which is transmitted
from person to person by skin to skin contact. HPV is considered to be a sexually transmitted
disease. You do not have to have anal intercourse to develop anal condyloma however if you do have
anal intercourse with someone who has contracted HPV it is highly probable that you will also
develop the condition.
If the warts are not removed, they usually grow larger and multiply. If left untreated, the
warts may lead to an increased risk of cancer in the affected area thus it is particularly
important to visit a medical professional for further input.
HPV is a condition that also affects the vagina and genitals.
